Digging the big well. There was a severe drought in Newburgh, and garden watering was banned. Archie remembered that, long ago, there had been a natural spring on a far corner of the back yard. He hired to two guys to dig a big square hole there. Sure enough, it filled with water. He put a large green wooden cover over the well, got a small pump engine, and with long hoses, could water anywhere. This was still used during dry spells until the house was sold in 2001. See Reel 155 for picture of pump. Kids to camp, August 7-20. Kids at motel en route. Holiday Inn, Augusta (?) Howard Kendall with Abby, Rob Golding with Elizabeth. Ocean fishing with handlines.
