Political news special. First of several in-studio discussion/debates between Maine Republican Governor John McKernan and Democrat Joseph Brennan. Moderated by Pat Callaghan.
The Race for Blaine House; an ad for Joe Brennan features individuals saying why they will vote for him; an ad for Dave Emery, running for Congress, and he stands in front of the Bangor Standpipe to note the reasons he should be elected; an ad for Haley's Goodyear Tire; this political news special is the first of several in-studio debates between Maine Republican Governor John McKernan and Democrat former-governor Joseph Brennan, moderated by Pat Callaghan; Andrew Adam, and independent was not included in this debate;
Each of the candidates begins with a statement about what they think are the outstanding qualities of their respective records during each of their terms in office since each of them served as governor; each of them talks about the fiscal situation in Maine as projected; they each talk about what they would cut from the budget, and ways in which they grew the economic development of the state; there are many testy moments between the two who nearly call each other liars; they each closed with statements that reiterate the strengths of each of their administrations and highlight the shortfalls of the other's time in office;
Both of the candidates played on their backgrounds as hardworking and as starting off their lives from humble households.
