KCA60; Lasting Images: A World of Difference; the Media as a Mirror or Lens; the Black woman as mammy stereotype; during the 1950s some musicians were promoted but television executives ran into some resistance; 1970s returned to degrading caricatures; then mixed families with Black child took on life of its own; The Cosby Show is said to be a new model for shows; television can be an educator about the unknown like the Arabs, one high school teacher says, by way of example; sample segments are shown, most of which are negative and narrow; Hispanics are shown, as well, with segments but are both leaders and criminals; Asian actors and their stories are the most troublesome; Rambo and Year of the Dragon do not help the social situations; successful satire is seen by some to be prejudicial when it comes to race; advertisers seem to have learned that appealing to aspirations of minorities is a more successful strategy than using negative stereotypes;
