Mary Richardson reports on fishing for salmon in the Penobscot River, and efforts to reintroduce the fish to the river. Includes clips of interviews with fishermen and women, outdoor reporter for the Bangor Daily News Tom Hennessey, president of the Veazie salmon club Wayne Heath, painter Arthur Taylor, historian Roger D’Errico, biologist Norm Dube, hatchery manager Tom King. Shots of the river, Bangor, various salmon clubs, the hatchery at Alamoosook Lake. Also uses historic footage of fishermen. Richardson interviews Eddie Reif, who ties fly fishing flies. Also includes clips of Claude Westfall of the Veazie Salmon Club, Bob Briggs of Bangor Hydroelectric, Don Shields of the Penobscot River Coalition, Malcolm Coulter, formerly of UMO. Discussion of conservation, fish limits, and catch-and-release. Story about game warden Debbie Palman. Chronicle visits Old Town Canoe company, with manager of research and development Lew Gilman, designer Scott Phillips. The episode ends with a preview for a Chronicle episode where the hosts compete to see who can reach the airport the fastest.
