MSBR/ Monomoy Island; commercials included; no one lives on the island any more since 1944; an island survey is done each year of the bird colonies; the island is classified as a wilderness but visitors are allowed and even encouraged; the constantly shifting sand is most noticed around the lighthouse that was once one end of the island but now is far from the coast; tern and gulls are thick on the island; Whitewash Village was the abandon harbor town on the island that was lost when a storm washed the shore away around it at the turn of the 20th century;
