circa 1920
[No title]
16 mm safety film, B&W, silent with titles, one 7" reel. [Fragment put back onto reel w/ rest of film]
Possibly a commercial film, features clips on early aviation incidents, ca. 1920. The beginning of the film is missing; a fragment of film on another reel featuring Charles Lindbergh is probably the end piece. Some examples of material on the film:
Byrd and assistant Nouille and Bennett are crippled in the wreck of a big Fokker Plane on April 16.
Bellance plane is damaged during take off. Chamberlin barely saves himself and 2 little girl passengers.
On April 26 Davis & Wooster dive to their death in a swamp near Langley Field, Va.
May 8 France's heros Captains Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli fly from Paris and disappear never to be heard from again.
The kid of 25 calmly announces that he intends to fly his plane, the Spirit of Saint Louis across the ocean alone.
N.B. Identified by Mark Taylor at the National Air and Space Museum as 'Captain Charles A. Lindbergh of America' produced as a home newsreel for Kinograms or Kodak Cinegraph.
