Reporter Clark Booth, in voice over, sets up comments made by Larry Pleau, about the need for cooperation between the two professional hockey leagues in solving the problem of player salaries. Pleau says competition is what America is founded on, but merger may be required in order to save professional hockey. Game play footage of New England Whalers' Steve Alley is shown to close the segment, with a voice over from the reporter who says the situation may be dire for the leagues.
