Viewing NotesExterior A.S. Hinds Laboratory building. Man in office with vertical phone on corner of his desk is immobile, then begins to do desk work. He shifts papers from one jacket pocket to another. He picks up phone and listens. He is wearing spectacles and a standup collar and tie. Next scene he is standing and fixing labels on paper packages of his products. Another man at a desk with an adding machine. (This scene has a very large piece of dirt at the top of the frame; several following scenes have dirt in frame.) Another man looks at a technical drawing while smoking a cigar. Says something to camera while looking at another document. Man in bow tie at desk with envelope. Looks through stack of papers. Says something to camera. Takes out cigarettes. Man copies something on a card. In mixing room. Large kettles, workers use paddles in steaming kettles, supervisor circulates. (Dirt at top of frame again.) Bottles on conveyor. Woman with her back to camera touches face. (Dirt still in frame.) Bottles progress through mechanized conveyor belt, filled with a substance. Bottles touched by another woman, girl in apron. Labels applied automatically. (Is this Hinds Honey and Almond Hand Cream?) Man puts boxes into machine. Boxes assembled. Women package products. Man in overalls has larger boxes assembled. Row of women working fast. Women doing paperwork. Quick pan, poor exposure of boxes on loading dock. Exterior of A.S. Hinds Co. truck. (Good view) Men load boxes on loading platform quickly; one in knickers, other in overalls. Boxes say "Glass" (Good scene.) Man with cartons. Exterior, man goes to car. Socony Motor Oil billboard in background. Billboard for Green Knolls. Clean car, trolley passes. (Dirt at top of frame.) Woman puts substance on a product, like buttering a canape. She looks at camera. She is wearing a hairnet. Man moving glass bottles into machine. Man in overalls takes empty bottles and puts them on conveyor. Exterior two men, one in boater hat. Car with door open. Exterior with men and cars (very poor exposure). Office, another man with two telephones. He wears a bow tie. Women in factory. (Light leak on left.) Next scene young boy and very young girls work in factory. at 39:34 man in overalls at a machine passes product to girl with bangs. Woman in pinafore from behind at machine, high shot of factory floor, many women busy. Bare light bulb overhead. 40:13 CU girl packing pill bottles, nicely lit. Cases of bottles behind her with Hinds printed on them.
