Collection contains [Herbert Kenney--home movies], scenes of Mt. Desert Island, Maine, swimming at Echo Lake and Somes Pond, fishermen, whales and sea lions, duck hunting, camp scenes, and family outings such as picnics and ice cutting near Northeast Harbor. The Harborside Inn and staff is depicted. Collection also contains fiction: a short amateur film by Kenney titled "Surrender" about married life. Also included are excerpts of purchased Kodascope footage showing a Felix the Cat cartoon, a circus tightrope act and other segments.
Herbert Kenney owned the Harborside Inn in Northeast Harbor from 1927 to 1932, and also ran several Mt. Desert movie theaters over the years. The Harborside Inn is still in operation. Subsequently Kenney was a projectionist at the St. George Theater in Framingham, Mass., for nearly 40 years. His daughter Constance married Donald "Duck" Seavey of Northeast Harbor. Kodascope Libraries distributed 16 mm. films for home viewing and entertainment.
