Collection contains [Maurice Venno--home movies] emphasizing family activities and travel to tourist sites. Home activities in Kingston, New York, include pulling taffy, skating, raking blueberries, church fairs, and Christmas celebrations. In Maine, picnics on the beach, scenes around the Hiram Blake Camp, and the 1954 hurricane at Cape Rosier. Scenes of travel along the Maine coast include a schooner race, the Deer Isle bridge when it was new, Old Orchard Beach, the Desert of Maine, and several harbors. Footage includes travel to the Catskill Mountains, Jamestown, Virginia, a museum at Hyde Park, New York, and Florida. See also Deborah Ludlow Collection.
The Rev. Maurice Venno was from Cape Rosier in Brooksville, Maine, and his first parish was in Kingston, New York. The Hiram Blake Camp, at Harborside on Cape Rosier, was founded in 1916 by Hiram and Lucy Blake and is still run by family.
