AbstractThe scenes appearing in this reel are outtakes or duplicates of scenes from the edited films produced by The Maine Sea Coast Mission. Scenes of schoolchildren served by the Mission. Views of cargo being unloaded from Sunbeam on a dock, including a pine casket which is carried off by six men. Views from Sunbeam of Libby Island lighthouse at the entrance to Machias Bay, built in 1822. This was one of the best-built lighthouses in the Maine system. The light is not open to the public and the keeper's house and other outbuildings no longer exist. View of the interior of the lens in the lighthouse. Views of Sequin Island light station, Popham Beach , built in 1795, which stands 180 feet above the water, contrasts strikingly with the modest, red brick keeper's quarters. This was Maine's first offshore station, located about two miles from the mouth of the Kennebec River. and a US Coast Guard lighthouse and Coast Guardsmen in boat going down ramp in a dory, posing for camera. Desert Rock lighthouse, built in 1830, 20 miles southeast of Mount Desert Island, this is one of the most remote and lonely lights. Views of Crabtree Ledge lighthouse near Hancock Point, built 1890, This caisson-style, "spark-plug" light once stood in Frenchman Bay, near Hancock Point. It was sold to a series of private owners and was so poorly maintained that it eventually collapsed. Views of Halfway Rock lighthouse, Harpswell, built 1871. This conical granite tower sits atop a notorious rock heap that caused many shipwrecks over the years. A lighthouse keeper rows toward the Sunbeam, then two keepers pose for the camera. Good views of fishermen pulling in a net full of fish onto the deck of a fishing trawler using a hoist and winch. The net is returned to the water, and the deck is full of fish. The stern of the boat reads " Louise C. Stonington, ME". Views of house barge and harbor with large sailing yachts, many of which sport nautical flag decorations.
