The Steadfast Tin Soldier: ballet; A young dancer picks up a tin soldier and puts it in a hat that is then swallowed by a fish; black screen; a second take on the same sequence; third take on same sequence; black screen; close up on fish eye rolling upward; black screen; stage curtain; children and parents dance before a Christmas tree and receive gifts, enjoy them and then return them to their place; black screen; the scene is replayed; black screen; children at table and parents next table; boy removes soldier from feast; black screen; close up shots at table; black screen; scene is replayed; scene is replayed; black screen; scene opens with dollhouse set and dancer and toy soldiers like those the children received as gifts; the soldiers dance; the ballerina dances; there are several attempts at the pas de deux; black screen; an obviously bad-guy jack-in-the-box jumps out of a drum to come between them; black screen; there is a delayed pause in the rehearsal and dancers try to work through some moments with obvious difficulty; the children wake to find disaster in their doll house but a heart in the fireplace; the curtain falls;
