"Living / Dying"
Jabberwocky: Living & Dying; Carl and Frank open the show by discussing Frank's fear of talking about dying; theme music and visuals; they decide to talk instead about dirt, and the way a flower grows and then dies, and how plants' life cycle creates the environment of dirt; they continue the discussion by thinking of clothing, and the ways in which animals contribute to the making of clothing for humans; to demonstrate the life cycle, Carl suggests Frank watch a cartoon video of colored balls progressing through birth, school, marriage, work, raising a family, retirement and death, regenerating to new life; black screen breaks; Trina brings a chart to Frank of his family tree; they discuss tracing ancestry; Larry Geller talks with the studio children about how to couple history with present-day life; he talks about Plymouth Plantation as an example of "living history"; Elder Brewster's descendent built a model fort that shows how the pilgrims' protected themselves; the show concludes with Carl singing Where Have All the Flowers Gone, by Pete Seeger, while Trina and the studio children listen;
