Valerie Navy looks as campus racism at UMass Amherst, where she talks with activist Patricia White. Clip of an episode of ABC’s Good Morning America. Clips of an interviews with UMass chancellor Joseph Duffy, and author and professor Michael [Felwell?]. Holmes reports on Channels for Educational Choices, a program to send public school students to private school. Includes clips of interviews with student Michele Mitchell, her mother Vera Robinson, and program director Barbera Riley. Holmes reports on a program where students from the [Timilty?] School send letters to community figures (including WCVB reporter Jorge Quiroga and Boston Mayor Ray Flynn). Includes clips of interviews with teacher John Shields, The program is part of ‘Project Promise’, created by Boston School Superintendent Laval Wilson, which enacted a number of changes to try to improve students reading and writing skills. The students meet their pen pals. Superintendent Wilson and student Antonia Ray speak. Includes a 30 second promo at the end.
