People watch as 40 foot hole is dug. Grandstand built so people could watch. 'Frederick Johnson, archeologist in charge, found Indian stakes that proved to be evidence for the oldest inhabitants east of Mississippi.' Oyster shells. Indian fishing. 'January 1940 annual meeting.' Visited construction site. Many men trooping down to site. 'Spring 1940.' Steel work beginning. 'Maine quarried granite will be used. August 1940, corner stone.' Agency and home office staff gathered. President Smith gives talk. Smith flanked by insurance company men. 'New England Mutual Life Insurance Company banner. Third oldest policy holder, Mr. Fletcher Clark. 69 years ago he got a policy.' Shots of downtown Boston as building goes up. Finished April 1941. 'Let's swing it.' Quick cuts of building going up.
