Storekeeper, Armand Pomerleau, general store in Jackman, near Canadian border in northwest Maine. Caters mostly to lumbermen and hunters. You can always have a free cup of coffee there. Artist Neil Welliver, originally from Pennsylvania. Has a painting in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and is represented by well known galleries in Boston and New York. House, about two miles off the road, is completely powered by a windmill and wood burning furnace. Woodcarver Bernard Wilkinson, Casco. Formerly worked at a sawmill but gave that up to devote time to whittling. His daughter paints the carved birds, etc. and his wife is the salesperson at craft shows and gift shops. Small businessman, Clifton Bond, Jefferson. Bond Manufacturing Company. Coopers Mills and Jefferson, makes science kits for high school physics. The area in which Mr. Bond lives, and where his ancestors lived, was at time referred to as Bondtown because there were so many Bonds. Lobsterman, Manville Davis, New Harbor. The island referred to is Monhegan Island where Mr. Davis grew up. His family has been lobstering for five or six generations before him. He has lobstered since he was fourteen, and his son is a lobsterman. Monhegan is about 10 miles off the coast. Dairy farmer, Sherman Varney, Turner, Maine. Prominent Maine dairy farmer, active in farmers' associations in state and national levels. He is being helped by his son in operating his farm.
