Elizabeth Swain (Maine Audobon Society) hosts a program about woodburning stoves, sponsored by the Maine Audobon Society and the Northeast Solar Center. Swain interviews John Vivian (author) and Eva Horton (President, Kristia Associates) about wood stoves. The program includes footage shot at Vermont Castings Inc. (Randolph, Vermont), at Dover Stove Company (Sangerville, Maine). The program also includes interviews with Charlie Page (Vermont Castings Inc.) and an interview by Gordon Wark with Herb Roberts and Don Wharff (co-owners of Dover Stove Company). One of the program segments compares two stoves: the Scandia Defender and the Vermont Castings Vigilant. Another segment compares the performance of cast iron stoves to the performance of plate steel and firebrick stoves. The program includes interviews with Beatrice Bryant (Bryant Steel Works) and with Richard Hill (Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine in Orono). Hill talks about heat efficiency of stoves. The program features footage of Bryant Steel Works. The end of this tape contains a clip of the program ìShivaree.î The band Devonsquare performs on the program.
