Documentary by Peter Barricelli containing professionally filmed and intertitled overview of the Sandy River and Rangeley Lake Railroad, a two-foot gauge line active from 1879 to 1935. Original footage is 16 mm. film shot by Newell Martin, an industrial filmmaker. Barricelli acquired Martin's films and edited them into this 30 min. documentary. NHF notes on the original footage retained by Barricelli: Reel 1. Professionally filmed, titled; 'Scenes on the Sandy River and Rangeley Lake Railroad.' Reel 2 title, 'Scenes of Sandy River trip. From its very beginning in 1879 the history of the line was one of suspense...16 engines.' 1933 trip. Phillips Station. Strong Station. 'Off for Kingfield! 2-4% grade by Mt. Abrahamson...' to Carrabassett. 2 ft. gauge railroad which ended operation in 1935.
