The Troubled Child is a public affairs program presented on WABI by the Kennebec Valley Mental Health Center (KVMHC) and funded by The National Institute of Mental Health and The Maine Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. The program features an introduction and conclusion to the topic by Edmund S. Muskie (Senator). The program focuses on issues surrounding troubled children, including sexual abuse, physical abuse, suicide, crime, mental health problems, child abuse, child neglect and emotional disturbances. Host Thomas Fielder (Board of Directors, KVMHC) is joined by Roslyn Dansky (President, Board of Directors, KVMHC), Dr. Charles Rothstein (Director of Professional Services, KVMHC), Dr. Fred Bloom (staff psychiatrist, KVMHC), Dr. Daniel A. Hughes (staff psychiatrist, KVMHC) and Mr. Carmen Celenza (Executive Director, KVMHC). Bloom and Hughes are shown talking to anonymous patients about their childhoods. Celenza talks about the creation of a Troubled Children's Fund.
