The tape contains: Civil defense: CW-1: cat.no.0051-04, 1962, 1 min., sound, commercial: lifepack survival rations, bomb shelter rations in 8 or 16 day packages are the products being sold by the Superior Sales Corporation of Bangor. CW-2: cat.no.0001-04v, June 15, 1955, 7 min., silent, Civil Defense Evacuation of Bangor, this long special report covers an evacuation drill of the city. Includes shots of the Bangor Amateur Radio Emergency Corp., removing patients on stretchers from the Bangor Osteopathic Hospital, and views of State Street, Broadway and Main Street as cars leave the city. The cameras tour the deserted city. A few aerial views. (Excerpt from 20 min. story) CW-3: cat.no.1053-14, May 19, 1967, 30 sec., silent, Fallout Shelter Exercises, a man with a loudspeaker leaders people through a fallout shelter drill. Shots include a man being measured and people standing in the shelter. CW-5: cat.no.0060-12, September 29, 1963, 2 min., sound, NORAD Promo/National Anthem, this short promotional film describes the Colorado base for NORAD (the North American Air Defense Command) and its mission to protect North America from attack. Includes the NORAD band playing the national anthem. Political perspectives: CW-6: cat.no.0009-03v, November 13, 1959, 3:30 min., sound, Interview With Charles McWarter (?), a brief interview with legislative assistant to Vice-President Nixon. He answers questions on subjects including changes in administration policy since the death of John Foster Dulles, President Eisenhower's position on cold war tensions, Nixon's trip to Russia, and Nixon's possible nomination for the presidency. CW-7: cat. no.00028-04, January 1961, 6 min., sound, 'Pulse of the World' Program 1, Rev. Robert Graves is the host of this short Bangor program. His guest is Dr. Bob Pierce, president of World Vision, Inc. Dr. Pierce is asked to give his view on how other countries see the U.S. Discussion of the U.S. image abroad. Racial integration in the U.S. and hoe the race problem is viewed in other countries and what we can do at a local level to help the fight against communism. CW-8: cat.no.0030-21, October 1961, 7:30 min., sound, 'Pulse of the World,' Rev. Robert Graves's guest on this short Bangor program is Brooks Hayes, a former Congressman from Arkansas for 17 years, and at the time of the interview, Assistant Secretary of State for Congressional Affairs. They discuss racial integration in the southern U.S., the space program, the practice of (Baptist) religion in the Soviet Union and the importance of the U.S.'s spiritual foundation. CW-9: cat.no.0059-11, March 14, 1962, 2 min., sound, Appeal for Radio Free Europe, former Maine Governor Horace Hildreth, Chairman, and Fred Neuman, Treasurer, of the Maine Chapter of Radio Free Europe ask viewers for support of the Radio Free Europe program in two 60-second commercials. They describe how Radio Free Europe will help stop the spread of communism by beaming radio messages to 80 million people behind the Iron Curtain. CW-10: cat.no.0074, December 19, 1963, 20 min., sound, President John F. Kennedy, Speech at Orono, Presidnet Kennedy on the first anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis speaks at the University of Maine at Orono. He focuses on the aftermath of the CUban Missile Crisis, how it may be viewed as time passes and the state of U.S.-Russia relations and the Cold War.
