Views of countryside, farm buildings, birds, nature. 'One-tenth of Maine's farmers are part-time.' Backgrounds of individuals vary: doctor, trapper, TV performer, etc. Scenes of families together at home and pursuing recreational interests: swimming, boating, cross-country skiing. Varieties of farms: greenhouse projects (flowers and fruit and vegetables); kitchen gardeners (home canning and freezing). Scenes of preparing gardens and harvesting. Also cattle farms: beef and dairy; poultry farms and sheep farms. Part-time farmers in Maine can enjoy Maine broiler Day in Belfast (Maine poultry industry crowns a queen for a year, crowned by Gov. Muskie.) Lobster festivals, Gilbert and Sullivan theatre at Monmouth, amusement park and country fair in Norway (market lamb show and sale). Mentions that Belted Galloways were first brought to Maine by part-time farmers. Shows links between farming and industry. (Notes Feb 1993 by Prudy Heilner.)
