Emphasis on modern work, factories, sardine industry, shoe industry. Single mother of four in factory. Woman in shoe factory who has disabled husband. Woman doing assembly line factory jobs. Woman says she works for 'things she wouldn't normally be able to buy, like clothes and good food.' Low wages. Unions don't help women. Inequality of women in the workplace. Woman discusses working at Stinson's sardine factory. Pace: 300 cans per hour, 3000 fish to cut and pack. Credits at end.
