The Torngat Mountains are a mountain range located on the Labrador Peninsula at the northern tip of Newfoundland and Labrador and eastern Quebec and are part of the Arctic Cordillera. The Torngat Mountains cover 30,067 square kilometers (11,609 square miles), including lowland areas and extend over 300 km (186 mi) from Cape Chidley in the north to Hebron Fjord in the south. The Torngat Mountains have the highest peaks of eastern, continental North America. Intertitle: "Examining harbors and channels around Cape Chidley." Pans of the rugged coastline and the fenced yards of buildings in the village. Port Burwell is a harbor on western Killiniq Island, formed as an arm of Ungava Bay, at the mouth of Hudson Strait. Previously within Labrador, and then the Northwest Territories, it is now situated within the borders of Nunavut, Canada. Cape Chidley is 25 miles (40 km) to the northeast. A Hudson's Bay Company expedition in 1885 on the Alert, established an HBC trading post within the harbor. In 1904, Moravian missionaries established a mission and trading post at the northwest corner of the harbor. Twelve years later, the HBC moved one of their trading posts to the northeast area of the harbor. Intertitle: "Flying south to Nain, August 8. The Kaumajets, late afternoon." The Kaumajet Mountains are a dramatic compact range rising directly out of the sea on the northern Labrador coast. The range boasts one 4,000-foot peak, the highest island peak on the east coast of North America between the Caribbean and Hudson Strait, and several peaks with very high prominence. The highest mountain in the Kaumajet Mountains is Brave Mountain at 1,300 m (4,265 ft). POVs from plane of the dramatic rugged mountains at the shoreline, with little vegetation, and a little snow on some of the faces, and small lakes amid the mountains. Intertitle: "Departure from Nain, southbound." View of Nain harbor from a boat; one of the buildings has "Hudson's Bay Company" written on the front. Small sailboats are moored in the harbor. Hopedale is located on the northern Labrador coast, amongst the large bays that open up to the Labrador Sea. The Hopedale Mission building, which is still standing, is considered one of, if not the oldest building east of Quebec. POVs from airplane as it taxis along the shoreline of the village.
