North woods drama. Marion Warner plays Philomel, Leo Pierson plays her brother Jacques. They live in a log cabin and Jacques farms unsuccessully. 'Rupert of the Royal Mounted Police' is played by Thomas Santschi. He has a large, shiny horse and goes off to serve in the Mounties. An Indian couple lives in a teepee; Indian in a blanket comes to cabin. Intertitle, 'A Year Later.' A bootlegger at a still in another cabin sells two bottles. Another man, named 'Silly,' is played by John C. Brownell; delivers mail. Rupert is coming back because his sergeant wants him to solve 'illicit still...liquor being sold to the Indians of Rock County.' Bootlegger offers Jacques a deal. Bootlegger meets Indian who leaves his wife by the river. She sees Mountie. Philomel finds bottle in Jacques' pocket and knows he's doing something illegal--has conflict of loyalties. Drunk Indian with knife fights with Marion at teepee. Indian woman and Marion go into teepee. Rupert, with rifle and pistol drawn, catches Jacques and Indian, says, 'There's only one side to be on, Jacques, that's the right side.' Marion fantasizes about being embraced by Rupert; she writes a letter to Rupert; it's carried by Silly and given mistakenly to bootlegger. Bootlegger, jealous, ties up Philomel and throws her in the basement. Silly rescues her. There is a gunfight with all players. Rupert and Philomel defeat the bootleggers. They embrace.
