AbstractCan note: "Lake Placid, Feb. 1932" The Winter Olympics took place in Lake Placid, NY, February 4-15, 1932, with 14 events in 8 sports. Views of skaters in an outdoor rink, especially one woman practicing. This could be Norwegian Sonja Henie, as she was the first to wear white boots, a short skirt costume, and to make use of dance choreography. She placed first in Olympic women's figure skating in 1932. Another female practicing may be U.S. skater Maribel Vinson, who placed third in the Olympics in 1932, and was the reigning U.S. champion that year, or Fritzi Burger of Austria, who placed second. Views of a male skater practicing a one-legged jump on open ice, falling several times. Views of ski jump and of a long line of men on skis, shoulder to shoulder, grooming the slope by tamping it with their skis. They move to the side as a jumper comes down the course. Multiple shots from the top of the jump course, with spectators lining one side, and the expanse of Lake Placid below. All jumpers wave their arms in the air as they jump (compared to the aerodynamic body style that developed).
