Rand, William Collection
1931 – 1963
Collection contains [William Rand, Sr.--home movies] filmed at the family home in Massachusetts, in various locations in Maine and New Hampshire, New York, and northeastern Canada. The film principally shows the athleticism of the family: skiing down-hill and cross-country in their own backyard, racing small sailboats, canoeing, skating, hiking, hunting, skeet shooting, fishing, and learning to spin a lasso rope "just the way Will Rogers did" (from donor’s letter). One reel includes footage of the 1932 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid showing ski jumping, bobsled, hockey, and ice boating. Collection also contains several commercial shorts with cartoons, Keystone and Charlie Chaplin comedies, and news, including "End of World War II."
William Rand, Sr., the photographer, was the donor’s father. The family owned a home in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
