Collection contains unedited footage of two Maine cultural events shot by Ben Levine, an independent producer: the Maine Festival (1977, 1978) and the Common Ground Fair (1979, 1982, 1984). The Maine Festival footage includes music, dancing, children's activities and performances by artists including Dave Mallett, Gordon Bok, Tony Montanaro, and Jud Strunk. The Common Ground Fair footage includes interviews, entertainment, food booths, demonstrations of products, livestock, children and the fair grounds. Collection also includes camera masters for "Quebec Perspective" (1980).
Ben Levine, resident of Solon, Maine, is an independent filmmaker and founder of Media Source, a videotape production company. The Maine Festival, founded by comedian Marshall Dodge, was an arts fair held in the town of Brunswick, Maine, and later in Portland, and Thomas Point Beach, Brunswick. The Common Ground Fair is an annual event first held in Litchfield, Maine, then Windsor, and presently in Unity, Maine, organized by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA).
