The collection consists of 38 reels of silent, black and white, and color 16 mm film, totaling approximately 12430 feet. The films are primarily amateur films, shot by Christine, William, and Charles Reid during their travels around the world. These include boating excursions, including a trip on the St. Lawrence River, filmed by William Reid. Charles Reid filmed a road trip to various US and Canadian national parks, and a bicycling tour of the United Kingdom. Christine filmed two amateur documentaries about mountain climbing and skiing, filmed in Italy and Switzerland, as well as other work filmed around the United States.
William T. Reid Jr. (1878- 1976) married Christine Lincoln Williams in 1902. They had four children: Christine Lincoln Reid (1906-1990), Charles W. (1914-), William T. "Patrick" Reid III, (1903-1987) and Edith Williams (1904-). The family lived in Boston, where William T. Reid Jr. coached football at Harvard, while also spending time at their grandparents' home near Lake Tahoe. Christine Reid was an avid mountain climber, skier and writer. She summited mountains in the United States, Canada, and Europe, including Piz Popena, where a route up the south wall, the 'Via Christine,' is named for her. Christine made films and wrote articles about mountaineering and skiing for publications like the 'American Alpine Journal'. She was a member of the New England Explorers Club and Women's Travel Club.
Other records of Christine L. Reid are also held by the New England Ski Museum, the American Alpine Club, the Appalachian Mountain Club, and the Schlesinger Library at the Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University.
