Fogg, Janet and Tim Collection
film (2,500 ft.) : si., b&w and col. ; 16 mm. reversal pos.
Collection contains home movies, primarily scenes of women gardening, women's college field hockey games, outdoor suppers and family outdoor activities. Other footage shows Niagara Falls seen from a boat at the bottom of the falls, and Captain MacMillan and guests cruising in the Boothbay area aboard the schooner "Bowdoin."
The Fogg family lives in Maine. Captain Donald MacMillan, resident of Cape Cod with his wife Miriam, led numerous Arctic expeditions in the 1920s and 1930s. The schooner Bowdoin, accommodating a 15-member crew, was used for these expeditions; departing from the Maine coast, it sailed to Labrador, Baffin Island and Greenland enroute to the Far North. Miriam MacMillan is distinguished as the first Caucasian female crew member to go to the Arctic. The MacMillans were relatives of the Fogg family. The Bowdoin is now used as a training vessel by Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.
