      The Warrensburgh Historical Society Collection contains a 35mm print of the film "America's Polar Triumph," a silent film documenting Admiral Richard E. Byrd's flight to the North Pole.
      Admiral Richard E. Byrd summered at his home, Wickyup, in Hancock County Maine from 1937-1957. Bryd was born in Virginia in 1888 and died in Boston Massachusetts in 1957. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1912 and learned to fly in 1917. After retiring from the Armed Forces in 1924 he began polar exploration and was the first to fly over the North Pole in 1926 and the South Pole in 1929.
